Detroit high school students receive leadership lesson at Baker College

About 100 students from Detroit’s Mumford High School visited Baker College in Auburn Hills Tuesday, Jan. 31, for a lesson in literacy, personal goals and professional skills needed for the workplace.

The event was presented by Beyond Basics, a nonprofit organization serving students in metropolitan Detroit public schools by providing reading tutoring, literacy enrichment, and community partnership programs for students in preschool through 12th grade.

Speakers included:

• Henry Ford III, marketing manager for Ford Performance, Ford Motor Co.

• Jack Aronson, founder of Garden Fresh Gourmet and Clean Planet Foods

• Cleamon Moorer Jr., dean of the College of Business, Baker College.

The students also had the opportunity to complete applications for Baker College and tour the campus.
