Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti of Detroit Public Schools Community District has made an extraordinary request that Beyond Basics tutor every high school student who is struggling to read. As a result, Beyond Basics plans to expand into every public high school in Detroit, as you may have read in Crain’s Detroit’s Business.
We estimate that five out of six of Detroit’s high school students read below grade level. That’s a staggering 10,000 students. Our ambitious Be The Solution campaign is a community-wide call to action to tutor each one. Literacy will connect these young adults all the possibilities that life can offer and have a profound impact on the entire community. We hope you will join us in this life-changing effort.
