On Thursday, August 27th, individuals representing a variety of literacy-focused organizations from around Michigan and surrounding states joined our Zoom conference entitled “The Science of Reading”.  The goal of this event was to bring together a group of individuals to learn about the latest neuroscience research on literacy, to better inform our collective approach to tutoring.
After an initial meet & greet, we were joined by Dr. Laurie Cutting of Vanderbilt University. Dr. Cutting is an expert in the areas of brain functioning and cognitive processes – and studies how they connect to literacy and learning. She spoke about best practices, common misconceptions, and much more.
This will be the first of many Zoom conferences focused on topics connected to literacy. If you or anyone you know would be interested in attending future events like these, please contact Johanna Zwally at zwally@beyondbasics.org
