Finney High School Kicks off the Beyond Basics Leadership Series
Finney High School has already had two speakers to their school. The first was Mr. Darryl Jackson, Retired COO of Chrysler Financial. Mr. Jackson spoke to the senior class on the importance of education and commitment. He reminded them that the word S-I-L-E-N-T and L-I-S-T-E-N have the same letters.

NASA Colonel Jack Lousma spoke to the entire Finney student body on Wednesday, January 18th. Using a DVD presentation, he shared his experiences of life aboard The Columbia. He pointed out that when he was in space looking back at the earth there were no lines dividing countries. The things that divide us are manmade, like the lines on a globe. He encouraged the students to become socially, economically and spiritually united.

Chris Perry to Accept Beyond Basics 2011 Education Hero Award on Behalf of General Motors
Chris Perry, Vice President of U.S. Marketing for General Motors, will accept the Beyond Basics 2011 Education Hero award on behalf of the automaker. The honor will be presented at Beyond Basics annual fundraising dinner on Saturday, June 11. Read the full press release

Beyond Basics Partners with Jamieson Elementary
NCAA Excitement at Jamieson School Their Final Four Favorites
Beyond Basics, a non-profit educational organization, works with elementary students in the Detroit public school system. Their programming includes one-on-one tutoring for struggling readers, Book Club for better readers, an Art with the Masters program and a writing program that publishes the children’s own stories into hard, fabric covered books.
