Beyond Basics Partners with Jamieson Elementary

NCAA Excitement at Jamieson School Their Final Four Favorites

Beyond Basics, a non-profit educational organization, works with elementary students in the Detroit public school system. Their programming includes one-on-one tutoring for struggling readers, Book Club for better readers, an Art with the Masters program and a writing program that publishes the children’s own stories into hard, fabric covered books.

Children at Jamieson prepare for the Final Four by writing stories and creating art that depict the players and schools.

Duke Alumni Association Partnership

Duke
The Duke Alumni Association played a vital role to help Beyond Basics accomplish it’s mission this year.

The Duke Alumni volunteered for a wide variety of events with Beyond Basics. Many alumni generously donated their time and tutored students on a weekly basis. Scott Minder, a Duke Alum organized a field trip for several Jamieson students to the NCAA Tournament in Detroit. Other alumni were helpful in fundraising and procuring relationships.
