My father died when I was 4 years old. Then my mother remarried. I did not like it, because he would drink heavily and beat my mother and me. I did not like him so I ran away from home. Then for two years I worked with my grand mother. Once an elderly man met me and said that at this young age I should not be working but going to school and learning. Since then I wanted to learn. When I told my grand mother that I wanted to study she said she was too old and could not afford to educate me. Then my mother came to me and said she would send me to school. I was able to study 1st and 2nd grade. Then slowly she started sending me to work again.

Ours is a very poor family. My father earns a daily wage of Rupees 60 ($1.15) My mother works in the field. She gets a daily wage of Rupees 60. With this money they could not buy me all the school books so they would buy some and tell me they will get the other books tomorrow. Sometimes they could not even find work. That is why I came to this hostel.
